What's the difference between Titan Ridge and Alpine Ridge
Posted by Bill Dong on
TITAN RIDGE VS ALPINE RIDGE Alpine Ridge: The Alpine Ridge uses Intel chipset DSL6540, and the video links are negotiated at DisplayPort 1.2 speeds and sent down over either HDMI 1.4 or Thunderbolt 3. The manual states to officially allow for a maximum resolution of 4K 24Hz over the HDMI port, but the Thunderbolt ports allow for up to 4K 60Hz (a single 5K Thunderbolt display can allegedly work on the Alpine Ridge as well). Only bus power is provided with the Alpine Ridge unfortunately and the card is supplied with a total of 38W, which allows you to power...
Which CPU you should use to upgrade your Mac Pro late 2013
Posted by Bill Dong on
There are multiple choices for upgrading the CPU of Mac Pro late 2013 6,1. Here is a list of them and my opinions on them: * e5-2697 v2 -- 2.7GHz 12-core. Best multi-core performance. Most expensive. * e5-2696 v2 -- 2.5GHz 12-core. Fairly good multi-core performance. Much cheaper. * e5-2690 v2 -- 3.0GHz 10-core. Good single core performance and multi-core performance. Little bit expensive. * e5-2687w v2 -- 3.4Ghz 8-core. Best single core performance and good multi-core performance. Little bit expensive.
Can LG 5k Thunderbolt Display fully work with Titian Ridge card?
Posted by Bill Dong on
We know that LG 5k display can work with flashed titan ridge card, without camera or sound support. I did some experiment on finding an easy way to enable camera and sound. There is an interesting cable like this: https://www.amazon.com/Panghuhu88-External-Mainboard-Internal-Extension/dp/B07T87XY77?ie=UTF8&fbclid=IwAR1yA1_xJPpgk-ooLLGPgR4X4p4DZJt6llmTyfe1c6xONuN7ySTB7uuYzrE&ref_=pe_2640190_232748420_TE_item%29#ace-2342880709 It can connect usb header of your card in to one of Mac Pro's external USB slot. I did two experiments on this cable: 1) I tried to connect my wifi PCIe adapter to Mac Pro's external usb slot using this cable so that bluetooth may work. But it burned my wifi card. 2) I tried to connect titan ridge's...
How do we test Airport wifi bluetooth cards for Mac Pro 4,1 5,1
Posted by Bill Dong on
We sell wifi & bluetooth cards, for both bluetooth 4.0 and 4.2. It's not easy to test those cards to see if they work or not. For a full installation, you need to connect four anntentas on this card and it's not a simple job since the anntena connectors are very small it may take long time to finish connectiing them. Also, those anntena connectors are pretty fragile so you cannot keep connecting and disconnecting many times. Fortunately we don't need to connect anntenas before we see if this card work or not. Without anntenas connected, we still can determine...

What kind of 128GB RAMs can run on Mac Pro 6,1?
Posted by Bill Dong on
It's not easy to find proper 4x32GB memory for Mac Pro late 2013. Yes, the max memory capacity is actually 128GB, not 64GB. However, due to "high rank" of those 32GB ram units, the maximum frequency that can run with Mac Pro 6,1's CPU is 1066MHz, instead of 1866MHz. Don't worry, even if the memory is running in lower frequency, the timing is also with lower latency. So you won't sacrifise too much performance. There are a bunck of memories with different specs. For example, we found it's quite common to see "DDR3 1866 PC3-14900L ECC" memories on Amazon or...
